The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC) has urged the general public to be vigilant in order not to fall victim to new tricks deployed by car thieves to dispossess unsuspecting Nigerians of their vehicles.
The alert was borne out of the shocking discoveries made during investigations into the allegations of crime levelled against Babatunde Oluwatope Oni alias Olu Daniel and Oni Daniel Oluwatope.
The Federal High Court Abuja, on Monday, sentenced a 66 -year-old woman, Sikirat Adeyemi to five years in prison for exporting 1.340 kg of heroine.
Adeyemi who was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) had pleaded guilty to the offence.
Following assurance from President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the remaining Chibok girls are rescued, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, yesterday said the search for the remaining abducted Chibok girls was still on.
Lt-Gen Buratai, however, said activities of Boko Haram have been confined to Lake Chad region and fringes of Sambisa forest.
Three years ago (2016), a 22-year-old student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, Chukwudi Onweniwe, strangled his girlfriend, Nifemi Adeyeoye, to death after raping her in a farm in Ogbese, Akure North area.
“I did not remove any part of her body; I only killed her for the fun of it. I made love to her in the bush before killing her. I am not a cultist. It was when I killed her that I realized I made a big mistake and I wept bitterly.
The suspect who fled to Lagos State after committing the crime was eventually arrested.
He has however confessed to the crime stating that he hired three other men now at large and paid them the sum of N500, 000 and along with himself, they abducted and murdered the deceased because he was dating his wife.
The Ogun State police command alleged that the suspects, who are siblings and indigenes of Delta State, had trailed their brother-in-law to his farm on February 5, 2019 and macheted him to death for denying them the use of the frontage of his house for their church activities.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said that the killing was reported at the station by the wife of the deceased and their teenage daughters.
Some hoodlums have allegedly set on fire, a police station in Ajali, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The hoodlums also set free some prisoners after beating up some police officers, reports have claimed.
Photos from the scene show that the police building was almost, totally burnt while at least two police patrol vans were equally burnt.
The Nkukula Magistrate Court in Lilongwe, Malawi on Monday, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour Dickson Kamwendo, 28, for defiling a 10-year-old disabled girl at Area 49 in the capital.
Kamwendo was arrested on January 31 2019 after being caught defiling the standard two learner in one of the unfinished buildings.
