At least six persons, including two students of Nneoma Secondary School, Otolo Nnewi, have been reported dead and several others injured in multiple auto accidents that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, February 21, along Akwudo Junction in Nnewi, Anambra State.
It was reported that a soakaway truck collided with a truck carrying gallons of palm oil. The small truck then crashed into another big truck conveying varieties of brands of the Nigerian Breweries beer parked by the roadside along the junction.
The driver of the small truck carrying gallons of red oil, who was identified as Ugochukwu from Ndiakwu Otolo Nnewi, with another woman seated at the passenger side, died instantly. Two other students of Nneoma Secondary School, Nnewi, who were crossing the place on foot, were also crushed.
There was mild drama when angry youths stormed the place, set the trucks on fire and catered away over 100 cartons of beer.
The dead bodies were deposited at the morgue of the Akwudo Hospital while those that sustained serious injuries were at the intensive care unit of the hospital.
When, visited the Otolo Police Station, the officers at the station said they would visit the scene of the accident and compile reports thereafter.
