Earlier this week, the entertainment world was devastated to learn the news of Stan Lee’s death at age 95. Now, the comic book giant has been laid to rest during a private funeral ceremony, as reported by the Associated Press.

Lee’s company, POW! Entertainment issued the following statement in regards to the service: “Stan was always adamant that he did not want a large public funeral, and as such his family has conducted a private closed ceremony in accordance with his final wishes.”

However, the statement also said that more memorials are being planned for Lee, admitting that “The grandeur of Stan makes this a monumental task.”

Until more details are revealed about upcoming public memorials, POW! has set up The Stan Lee Memorial Wall on his website, where friends, colleagues, and fans can post messages to the architect of the modern Marvel Comic Universe.

As a comic book writer, Lee broke all the rules when he started his job at what was then Timely Comics back in 1939. By the early 1960s, Timely had evolved into Marvel, while he helped usher the industry into what’s referred to as the Silver Age. Along the way, he had a hand in creating characters ranging from Spider-Man, The X-Men, Iron Man, The Avengers, and many more.

Over the last 20 years, Lee got to see many of his creations make the leap to the big screen, growing from simple popcorn fodder to some of the biggest blockbusters on the planet.

Since news of his death this past Monday, there’s already been an outpouring of support for Lee, which has included candlelight vigils at Lee’s former home to everyone from The Avengers cast to DC Comics have taken out ads paying tribute to Lee and his creative vision.

If you’re looking for a way to reflect on Lee’s massive influence, you can simply type his catchphrase, “Excelsior!” into Netflix and settle in for a good superhero binge-watch.
